The iconic wiggle dress made famous in the 1950’s by Marilyn Monroe was an the style to be seen in at the time and one that has lasted. So called as it fitted so closely round the legs that it was necessary to wiggle to walk..
Marilyn is seen ablove with her husband Arthur Miller her third husband who she married in 1958 and below in a polkadot wiggle dress from the film ‘asphalt jungle’ 1950 directed by John Huston. The dresses are similar style though made of different types of fabric. These dresses would need some stretch, either by use of bias cut or stretch in the fabric itself.
The black fabric below would be ideal for making a body hugging wiggle dress. Vintage polyester/ lycra /nylon dress fabric which feels like crepe, it has two way stretch and is made up of stripes formed of double layers of fabric (the top layer crinkled like seersucker) and single more open weave (the lines that appear shiny).
Light-medium weight fabric from my ebay shop.
