What People Make with the Fabric I sell – 1940’s Dress

What a great vintage dress.. the accessories finish it off perfectly too.

Robin sent this photo of his wife Lynne at a 1940’s weekend at Stoke Bruerne Northamptonshire. Such a lovely setting on the banks of  Grand Union canal by the canal centre.

The dress was made using a 1940’s dress pattern.  The original 1940’s fabric was narrow 35″ width rayon in an all over flower pattern in pink, blue, green and yellow. Such pretty stuff which falls beautifully.

Although there is no more of this design available, I do stock  a lot of  fabric from this era and am constantly looking for more. Rayon is always a favourite as there are such a variety of finishes. It was the first man-made fibre, yet  isn’t  thought of as synthetic as it is made from cellulose obtained from soft woods or from the short fibres (linters) that adhere to cottonseeds.
